One Team One Vision - Selangor Founder's Day
Sgt Darryn K.Y. Chiew of 3rd KL writes

This year, I was given the privilege to celebrate Founders' Day twice, and both times just a week apart from each other. The first time was at KL State Founders' Day, on the 7th of October. A week later, on the 14th , at the invitation of Sgt. Christopher from 1st Petaling Jaya, I went all the way to Klang to participate in the Selangor State Founders' Day.
I arrived at 1st P.J's home grounds, the Trinity Methodist Church at 1215 hrs. I found out that the majority of the senior section members were already in Klang (they went by KTM), and a handful still in the church to help the transportation of band instruments. At approximately 1230 hrs, we got into Selangor State Commissioner HCapt. Tay Bok Guan's car and set on our way to Klang.
To tell the truth, I was a little apprehensive about the trip, because I was going to be the only non-Selangor state BB member around. We arrived in Klang around 1310 hrs, to the Wesley Methodist Church , home of 1 st Klang Company. After meeting up with the other 1st PJ boys who came by KTM, we got ourselves seated in the sanctuary.

The event started at 1400 hrs sharp, when the Guard-Of-Honour was inspected by our National President, Mr. Michael Moorthy. Then the Brigade EXCO entered the sanctuary to welcome the entry of the Selangor State Colour.

After the introit of the State Colour, there was the Opening Prayer followed by speeches by the National President, Capt. Michael Moorthy, Selangor State Commissioner HCapt. Tay Bok Guan, and 1st Klang Company Captain, Capt. Terrence Tan. When the speeches concluded, the event was launched by the unveiling of a large banner filled with colourful handprints. These handprints are handprints of members of all the companies in Selangor State . The National President, National Chaplain, Brigade Secretary, State Commissioner of Selangor, and Captain of 1st Klang then imprinted their own handprints on the banner.

1st Klang's Cpl. Michael then led the congregation in a lively session of praise and worship. The lights were dimmed out for the next item, a video presentation of the Founder, Sir William Alexander Smith. After all, Founders' Day is in remembrance of him…. The video highlighted the main events in his life and showed the congregation some pictures of his birthplace in Scotland .

At 1510, the various companies came up to present a short item each. 1st Kajang Senior Section started the ball rolling by their choir performance, followed by the juniors of 3rd Kajang. Then, 1st PJ presented their band, followed by the 4th Kajang Company's choir. After that, 1st Sepang's juniors came out to present their song. This was followed by the 1st Klang Band.

Just before the 1st Klang band presented their 3 songs, Capt. Terrence shared with us about God's wonderful works. He told us about how he himself was facing a major exam this week, and was prepared to have to miss this Founders' Day, but later found out that the exam was postponed. He also gave thanks to the Lord for the sponsorship of RM10,000 from Majlis Belia Selangor to cover the cost of food for this event.
When the 1st Klang band finished presenting their wonderful repertoire, souvenirs were presented to the 9 companies of Selangor State , including the newest company, 4th Petaling Jaya. Then, was the extroit of the State Colour, followed by a photo session and refreshments. The photo session and refreshments also served as a time of fellowship and socializing, especially with friends that we met during the recent pesta. I made some new acquaintances and there were many surprised faces when they found out that I was from a K.L. Company. I had to explain that I was invited by a 1st P.J. friend.
After hanging around a while, it was time to say goodbye. It started drizzling , probably a symbolic gesture to the sadness of parting, but the smiling faces were a testimony that no matter what the earth's distances between the BB companies, we remain united in one big family of The Boys' Brigade.
