Thomas Tan returns
Terence Tay of BBM HQ writes
January 28, 2007 - The Selangor State Council recently held their Annual General Meeting at the Trinity Methodist Church, PJ. All companies except 1st Sepang were represented.
It was election year and since the current State Commissioner, Mr Tay Bok Guan does not want to continue to stand for election, it was proposed that Mr Thomas Tan be nominated as State Commissioner. Since there was no contest, Mr Thomas Tan won the election. Mr Thomas Tan is no stranger to Boys' Brigade and to the BBM EXCO. He was once the Secretary for the national level and he held various positions in the then KL Battalion and Central District Council. Congratulations to Mr Thomas Tan and welcome back!
Mr Eric Tan, Brigade Secretary was also present to share with the state about the proposed Youth Act. If it is passed by parliament, office bearers for state will need to be age fourty and below.
Similar to the KL State AGM (and probably all other states), hardly anyone is willing to take up the challenge of getting involved in other levels except their own company. Many have given reasons that work pressure and family commitment are stopping them from volunteering more than company level. Their reasons are very real and valid as today's society has changed. However, someone has to sacrifice (perhaps for a certain period of time), otherwise the BB ministry in Malaysia will one day face similar fate like those in western countries.
Here's the line up of the new Selangor State Council:
| State Commissioner | Mr Thomas Tan (Hon Capt of 3rd Kajang) |
| Deputy State Comm. (Extention work) |
Mr Matthews Abraham (Capt of 3rd Petaling Jaya |
| Secretary | Mdm Irene Ooi (Capt of 2nd Subang Jaya) |
| Treasurer | Mr Wong Chee Sam (1st Ampang Jaya) |
