Kulgames is back .... and gone!
It was after 11pm, the last day of March 2007. I got back home and looked at the mirror and oh boy, I looked like a lobster!!!
Hmmm...what actually happened to me ?
Sitting down in my living hall, seventeen floors above ground, I looked out my balcony and started to recall the last 15 hours.
Yes, today the KL State organised their fifth KulGames at the YMCA (homeground of 3rd KL). This time I was rather eager to go. Isn't it a Saturday, my off day? BB again? Not enough of it working full-time in BB 10 to 6 from Mondays to Fridays? Kulgames has always been special to me. I remember developing the idea with the Primers of 3rd KL in the late 1990s. Back then I was a 3rd KL officer and 3rd KL hosted the first two Kulgames. Then 1st KL hosted the next two and now the fifth Kulgames is back in the YMCA grounds. This time around, I am coming as a 'coach', so I am here to participate and enjoy myself and complain all I want, to the organisers!!! |
The games started at 8.00am but as usual teams gathered much earlier. There was a simple opening ceremony with speeches from Mr Tan Chee Keong (host company captain) and Mr Jason Ng (KL State Commissioner). Oath taking was done where everyone promised to have the sporting spirit. |
Various sports were organised, namely, Mini Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Captain Ball and Girls' Captain Ball.
And for those 'putera dan puteri lilin' (a Malay term meaning those who can't stand the heat), the organisers had Chess Competition and movie sessions. Just kidding, we know that not everybody like sports, hence we need to create other activities.
I wonder why, I wonder how.... |
How I wish my company wins this trophy |
It's summer time, enjoy the sunshine |
It's so hot, one cup is just not enough |
Bad play, out you go! Where's the red card ah? |
Yes, I did it! I scored a goal. |
Since the inception of Kulgames, it was always made to be a carnival like atmostphere. This year we had two DJs to make some noice throughout the day. They were Joe Wong and Sanjay.
Well, since I'm insured might as well enjoy myself with some food |
The 'King', trying to make a fast buck! |
The 3rdKL Primers who made Kulgames happen |
Since we messed up the field, we got to clean it up |
It's been 10hours in the outdoors, anywhere is a nice comfy place to take a nap |
| 3rd KL Juniors sent two soccer teams, Team A & Team B. As usual, we try to put the bigger boys in Team A and then the rest in Team B. The whole idea of putting Team B was more for experience and enjoyment rather then competition. The young lads went in the court and practically had to look up their opponents. They look cute on the field but in my heart I thought, let them not be 'crushed' so badly! |
|
| As expected, Team B lost in every game between 3 to 5 goals. Like Arsenal which has not been doing quite well this season, I know that our Team B has the potential, they are the future team. So, to my Team B, don't give up, you did what you can, we'll train harder and we'll get better. While Team B was at the bottom of the table, Team A did very well. Never in Kulgames history that 3rd KL has ever won the Jr Soccer, it is indeed a fantastic day for the 3rd KL Juniors. |

You know what, I learnt a few valuable lessons today and I like to share it with you.
Lesson 1: Though the team may be too young or too small or inexperience, don't give up on them. Give them every encouragement. Leaders remember this.
Lesson 2: You may think that this is just Kulgames, not the Olympics or World Cup. No need to be so serious about it. If you treat it that way, then expect your members to treat a lot of activities or programmes that way.
Leaders, I encourage you to put in that extra effort. It may not be your World Cup but it is theirs. How many gets a chance to play in the World Cup ? Don't talk about World Cup, even a school team may not be within many members' reach.
Lesson 3: We have enough violence on TV and in sports. It is time to teach our young people to be serious of a sport and yet enjoy the sport with a sporting spirit. Sports is beautiful, enjoy it.
(There were no 'violence' in Kulgames but I could see some rough play here and there and some 'interesting' remarks. Remember discipline is not just during drill or in uniform)
Today has been a really 'cool' day for me, I'm sure everyone enjoyed themselves very much. But if you happen to meet any Kulgames participant, errr don't pat their shoulders please, I think everyone had sunburn today!
Though it rained in the very late afternoon and that sort of disrupted the games, but overall we want to praise God for the fine day.
Oh yes, please pray for the St. John Ambulance girl who was injured when on duty and also the 4th KL boy who fractured his wrist.
Congratulations! |

Thirty Something signing off |
Ps. Since we already have a National Group Singing, Band and Drill Competition, perhaps we should have one for sports, you know, BB's own Olympics!
